What is a career break?

I was talking to someone the other day and I explained that planning a career break is just like planning a series of vacations. It can be a little bit more complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Figure out where you want to be, and what you want to do, and create a plan to make those dreams a reality. ⠀

Whether you have your plans laid out a week, a month, or a year in advance depends on you, and what you’re prioritizing during your career break or sabbatical.⠀

If you’re prioritizing being at a certain event on a specific date, or if keeping your budget as low as possible is your priority, plan out as much as possible before you leave. If you’re prioritizing having fun, and going where the wind blows you, plan out as little as possible and make it up as you go along. Or find a happy medium, this is your life - the only one you get, live it in a way that feels honest to you.⠀
